Letter from Mr. Robinson regarding COVID-19
To Cerro Gordo CUSD #100 students, staff, parents and community:
This letter shall serve as an informational update on COVID-19 or Coronavirus and what is in the works for Cerro Gordo CUSD #100. Please understand that the situation is constantly evolving. We receive informational updates from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and federal, state and local health officials. I encourage you to visit www.isbe.net where you’ll find updates, as well as our local health departments, IDPH and CDC.
What preventative measures are we using to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment? We are encouraging frequent hand washing with soap and water or using hand sanitizer, cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or arm/sleeve, continuing to use best practices in cleaning and sanitizing, especially on surfaces frequently touched by multiple people, all to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for staff and students.
Earlier this week, school district superintendents received an email from Dr. Carmen Ayala, our state superintendent, stating that it is “imperative” that districts work on alternative e-learning plans in the event schools need to close due to the Coronavirus. An alternative e-learning plan would allow learning to continue via technology or other means while our students are not in school.
Within the past year, E-learning plans have become an option for Illinois school districts for weather-related school closings. Districts can implement e-learning plans and consider it a work day for teachers and the day does not have to be made up by staff or students. At this point, very few districts across the state – approximately 10%, most of which are 1 to 1 districts - have implemented these plans. Our administrative team has been meeting on the development of an alternative learning plan that could meet our students’ needs.
Effective immediately, and in coordination with other area school districts, the following changes are in effect. All Cerro Gordo and CGB extra-curricular games, meets and contests are cancelled through April 5, though practices will continue. The High School Musical performances scheduled for April 3-4 are postponed to a later date to be determined. All other school, youth league and community events scheduled to be held in Cerro Gordo Schools are also cancelled through April 5. Finally, we ask that all non-essential visitors postpone any planned visits to the school until after April 5.
Cerro Gordo CUSD #100 will continue to monitor the situation and continue to work with ISBE and local health officials to best meet the needs of students, staff and community. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support of our students, staff and school district.
Brett Robinson, Superintendent
