Instructions for return to school
Cerro Gordo CUSD #100
First day of school 2020-21
Good afternoon, this is Cerro Gordo Superintendent of Schools, Brett Robinson with some important information regarding our first day of school on Monday, August 17.
Doing the daily wellness, self-certification screening to confirm that your child is free of COVID symptoms and has a fever of less than 100.4, is the responsibility of all parents/guardians of in-person learners. This must be done each day before your child gets on the school bus or arrives to enter the school. It is imperative in our efforts to keep everyone well. The best way to do so is to download and use the Skyward app. This allows us to track who has completed this requirement each day. Further instructions on the app are available on the website and the district Facebook page.
Remote learning instructions for parents
For those who have chosen remote learning to begin the school year, if you decide to move to in-person learning, you will not have the option to make that change until the beginning of the second quarter of the school year. As stated in the Cerro Gordo Schools Reopening Plan, the expectations for remote learners may vary from teacher to teacher and by grade level. Some JH and HS teachers may choose to use a synchronous learning approach in which remote students are expected to attend classes remotely while the in-person class is in progress. Such expectations including attendance of remote learners will be communicated by your child’s teachers in the near future.
Textbook distribution for remote learners is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 18 from 4-6 pm at both the Cerro Gordo Elementary and Jr./Sr High School main entryways. Please notify the Jr/Sr High School office in advance if you do not have a device at home for your remote learner to participate and do their school work remotely. .
Instructions for morning arrival
In addition to completing the aforementioned daily wellness, self-certification screening, here are some additional school arrival instructions. Breakfast will be offered for purchase each day, beginning at 7:40 am. The school's doors will not be opened until 7:40 am, so please plan your child’s arrival accordingly, by whatever means your child gets to school. Cloth face masks must be worn by all students and staff as they enter the school and remain on at all times inside the school, with the exception of eating (breakfast) or drinking from a water bottle. Students should bring a water bottle that can be filled at our water bottle filling stations. A second cloth face mask will be provided on the first day of school. In addition to the face mask being worn, a backup face mask should be with the students each day in case there is a need to change it.
At the elementary school, staff will be on hand to confirm the wellness check has been completed and to meet students at the door and guide them to their classrooms as needed. Due to COVID considerations, parents may not enter the building to walk their children to class. Those elementary school students wishing to eat breakfast will do so in their classroom.
At the Jr/Sr. High, all students should arrive at the main HS entrance no earlier than 7:40 am. Staff will be present to confirm the wellness check has been completed and provide their class schedule. Students will then be directed to purchase breakfast if desired and go to their first hour class or to go directly to their first hour class, if they are not eating breakfast.
All elementary students should bring a daily snack.
Lunches will be available for purchase daily and a lunch count will be taken during the 1st period for in-person learners. Those students who order a lunch will have it delivered to their classroom just prior to dismissal. These will be grab n go lunches that are intended to be eaten at home. They may not be eaten on the school bus.
Remote learners may call their school office by 9:00 a.m. each day to order lunch for pickup at a time that will be provided when you call.
School begins daily at 8:05 am and dismissal times will be M-F 12:25 at CGES and 12:28 at CGHS. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support as we strive to maintain a safe environment for the students and staff of Cerro Gordo Schools.
