Reading and Language Arts:

We worked hard on creating an opinion paper this week.  We learned to make an OREO outline to organize our thoughts.  We are in the process of finishing an opinion paper on our favorite holiday.

We continued  our unit on poetry this week.We have learned about rhyme patterns and different types of figurative language.  We can tell the difference between a simile, metaphor, and personification.  We learned that poems are divided into stanzas and discussed that some poems have mood.  We learned how to pick out the words the author chose to create the mood.

Math:

We are now multiplying two digit numbers by one digit numbers with regrouping without models, etc.  Please continue to help your child with math facts since not knowing them makes the assignment a lot longer to do.  I do let them use BLANK math facts charts and fill in what they know--each day--they start a new one. This also helps with facts.

CORRECTIONS:  I am only taking corrections within 5 days of the assignment being returned to your student--not from the previous quarter, etc.  Corrections are only accepted on work that is turned in ON TIME--not late work.

Social Studies:

We are studying chapter 5 in our books on the Northeast.  We are learning to take notes on the chapter.

Science:    Our test over magnets is next Tuesday--sorry for putting it off, but we had some things to finish.  Then we will start Electricity.  Students  do not have a lot of homework in Science, but are given class time to do the experiments and may finish them up that day.  They need to use their time in class well and come in and finish are recess if necessary--I will not continue to give them days and days to finish things.
