Greetings to Cerro Gordo students, parents and community members!  I am excited to start my journey as the new JH/HS School Counselor.  This will be my 26th year in school counseling.  I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology (1986) and my Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling (1997) from Eastern Illinois University. I started my career at Arcola Grade School in 1997 then accepted the Stewardson-Strasburg district counselor position in 2004 and remained there until 2019.  My husband, Trent, and I took a leap of faith and moved to Summerville, SC during the summer of 2019 to enjoy the warmer weather and beach life and to eventually retire. We loved all that SC had to offer, minus the traffic. I worked as an elementary school counselor for the 4 years we lived there. When I found out that my daughter was expecting my first (biological) grandchild, we made the decision to return to central Illinois so that we could be closer to family.  We already enjoy being grandparents to two granddaughters and one grandson.  We currently reside in Decatur with our two fur babies, Willow and Hazel.

My hobbies include cooking, going to the beach, reading, watching sports (especially the St. Louis Cardinals), flower gardening, traveling and spending time with our blended family.

My favorite part of being a school counselor is helping students be the best version of themselves by offering academic, social and emotional support. I enjoy getting to know the students and their families so that I am able to provide direction, encouragement and resources that are most beneficial to them. I encourage parents/guardians to reach out with any questions or concerns. The family-school connection is vital in helping students to be successful.

I look forward to meeting and working with each of you throughout this school year!
